Sitting Arrangement Solve Exercise - 2

Direction (1-5): Read the information carefully and answer the given questions.

Eight people viz. P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W are sitting around a circular table in such a way that no two people are sitting together according to alphabetical order (for ex- P can’t sit with Q etc.). They also like different colours Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Pink, White, Black, and Brown. They are from different places viz. O, X, Y, Z, A, B, M and N. Some of them are facing to the centre while some are facing outside the centre.
P is sitting third to the left of the one who likes Green. W is from N and U is from M. The one who likes Pink is from O. R is sitting opposite to the one who likes Blue and both of them are facing opposite direction to each other. Only one person sits between P and R. Q likes Green. W is an immediate neighbour of R and sits fourth to the right of the one who likes White. Q is not facing towards the center. Not more than two people sitting together are facing same direction. U sits second to the left of the one who likes White. S is from B. S sits third to the right of the one who is from A. The one who likes Red sits third to the left of the one who likes Black. P doesn’t like Black and is from Y. The one who likes Brown is facing same direction to that of V who is from Z. T is facing opposite direction of the both of the one who likes Yellow and the one who likes Red. V doesn’t like white and R doesn’t like pink.

Q1. Who among the following likes Yellow?
(a) R
(b) P
(c) W
(d) S
(e) None of the these

Q2. The one who likes green is from which of the following place?
(a) Z
(b) B
(c) O
(d) X
(e) None of the these

Q3. Which of the following combination is true regarding T?
(a) Z-Blue
(b) B-Brown
(c) O-Pink
(d) A-Green
(e) None of the these

Q4. Who sits third to the left of T?
(a) The one who is from Y
(b) The one who likes Brown
(c) The one who is from N
(d) The one who likes Red
(e) None of the these

Q5. How many persons are facing inside the center?
(a) Three
(b) Four
(c) Two
(d) Five
(e) None of the these

Solution (1-5):
(i). P is sitting third to the left of the one who likes Green. Q likes Green. Q is not facing towards the center. Only one person sits between P and R. R is sitting opposite to the one who likes Blue. W is an immediate neighbour of R and sits fourth to the right of the one who likes White. U sits second to the left of the one who likes White, so the one who likes white faces outside the centre. W is from N and U is from M. V doesn’t like white and V is from Z. V will face inside. P is from Y.

(ii). The one who likes Pink is from O. R doesn’t like pink, so the one who is from O sits immediate right of Q. S is from B so S likes white. S sits third to the right of the one who is from A, so R is from A and faces outside. The one who likes Red sits third to the left of the one who likes Black. P doesn’t like Black, hence P likes red and W likes black. W faces inside. T is from O. The one who likes Brown is facing same direction to that of V, so U likes brown and R likes yellow. T is facing opposite direction of the both of the one who likes Yellow and the one who likes Red. Q is from X and we get final answer.

Direction (6-10): Study the following information carefully and answer the given questions:

Eight persons A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are seated around a circular table. They all are of different ages- 24, 15, 19, 30, 27, 45, 36 and 10. Four of them are facing towards the center and rest outside the center.

B sits 2nd to the left of A, who is 6 years younger than G. B and A, who is not the youngest face opposite direction. H’s age is a perfect square. The one who is 30yrs old sits 3rd to the right of B. Both the immediate neighbours of G face opposite direction of G. F sits 2nd to the right of G but doesn’t sit just near to B. The one whose age is perfect cube faces inside and sits opposite to E, who is not an immediate neighbour of F. Not more than 2 persons who sit together face same direction. H doesn’t sit just near to G. The one who is oldest faces inside. Difference between ages of D and C is 5yrs. Youngest person is not an immediate neighbour of E.

Q6. Who among the following is oldest person?
(a) A
(b) C
(c) B
(d) E
(e) None of these

Q7. Who among the following is 10 yrs old?
(a) C
(b) A
(c) D
(d) H
(e) Either (a) or (c)

Q8. Who among the following sits opposite to the one who is 15 yrs old?
(a) H
(b) C
(c) The one whose age is 30
(d) The one whose age is 24
(e) B

Q9. What is the age of F?
(a) 36
(b) 45
(c) 27
(d) 19
(e) 30

Q10. Who among the following sits immediate left of the one who is 19 yrs old?
(a) B
(b) A
(c) H
(d) G
(e) C

Solutions (6-10):
Sol. (i). B sits 2nd to the left of A. H’s age is a perfect square. B and A, who is not the youngest face opposite direction. A, who is 6 years younger than G. H’s age (36 yrs) is a perfect square, so we can conclude that A is 24 yrs and G is 30 yrs. The one who is 30yrs old sits 3rd to the right of B. F sits 2nd to the right of G but doesn’t sit just near to B. Bothe the immediate neighbours of G face opposite direction of G. The one whose age is perfect cube faces inside and sits opposite to E, who is not an immediate neighbour of F, hence we get 2 possible cases.

(ii). Not more than 2 persons who sit together face same direction, so case 2 will be eliminated. H doesn’t sit just near to G. The one who is oldest faces inside, so E is oldest. Rest persons will face outside. Difference between ages of D and C is 5yrs, so B’s age is 19yrs. Youngest person is not an immediate neighbour of E. Either C or D is youngest. We get the final solution.

Directions (11-15): Study the following information carefully and answer the given
questions.

A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are sitting around a circular table in such a way that no two persons sitting together face same direction. Each of them likes a different colours, viz Blue, Black, Red, Brown, Purple, Green, White and Pink. (None of the information given in necessarily in the same order.)
C sits third to the left of the one who likes Pink. The one who likes Pink faces outside. Only two persons sit between C and H. The one who likes Blue sits on the immediate right of H. The one who likes Purple sits second to the right of G. G is neither an immediate neighbour of H nor of C. G does not like Pink. Only one person sits between A and the one who likes Purple. D sits on the immediate left of the one who likes Green. G does not like Green. E likes White. E is not an immediate neighbour of A. The one who likes Black is an immediate neighbour of E. The one who likes Brown is an immediate neighbour of F.

Q11. Who amongst the following sits opposite the one who likes Blue?
(a) The one who likes Black
(b) D
(c) A
(d) The one who likes Red
(e) The one who likes Brown

Q12. Who among the following represent the immediate neighbours of the one who likes Purple?
(a) B, F
(b) B, E
(c) C, E
(d) D, F
(e) F, H

Q13. Who among the following sits exactly between H and B?
(a) C
(b) The one who likes Purple
(c) A
(d) G
(e) The one who likes Red

Q14. Which of the following is true regarding B?
(a) B is one of the immediate neighbours of D.
(b) The one who likes Pink is an immediate neighbour of B.
(c) B sits second to the left of H.
(d) B is an immediate neighbour of the one who likes Blue.
(e) B likes White.

Q15. What is the position of the one who likes Green colour with respect to G?
(a) Second to the left
(b) Third to the right
(c) Fourth to the left
(d) Second to the right
(e) Third to the left

Solutions (11-15):
Sol.
(i). From the condition, A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are sitting around a circular table in such a way that no two persons sitting together face same direction. So, in case 1 there is one place for G to sit and in case 2 also. Only one person sits between A and the one who likes Purple. E likes White. E is not an immediate neighbour of A. So, there is two possible place for E to sit in case 1i.e. case 1a and case 1b.

(ii). From the rest condition, D sits on the immediate left of the one who likes Green. G does not like Green, from this case 2 and case 1a gets eliminated. The one who likes Black is an immediate neighbour of E, so G likes black. The one who likes Brown is an immediate neighbour of F so, F likes Pink and D likes Brown and B likes Red. Hence we get the final solution.
